Sooke Radio Society to Open Studio at Sooke Region Museum:
A New Community Hub is Born
MEDIA RELEASE: SOOKE, BC
Two of Sooke’s key non-profit organizations are joining forces to create an exciting new chapter in local storytelling and community connection. Sooke Radio Society is proud to announce that it will open its broadcast studio at the Sooke Region Museum and Visitor Centre, establishing a vibrant community hub in the heart of the region.
This unique collaboration brings together the rich historical and cultural resources of the Museum with the creative energy and reach of Sooke’s community radio station. The new studio will be housed within the museum grounds, offering both organizations new opportunities to engage, inform, and entertain residents and visitors alike.
“We’re stoked to partner with the Sooke Region Museum,” said Schuyler Lindberg, President of Sooke Radio Society. “Partnering with the Museum to establish a studio space represents a major step forward in our effort to give a voice to the communities of Sooke and the Juan de Fuca, and this partnership aligns perfectly with our mission to amplify local stories, and support arts, culture, and civic engagement in the region.”
Doni Eve, President of the Sooke Region Historical Society says “it’s important for non-profit organizations to work together to find creative solutions to funding pressures and increasing public engagement. The collaboration with Sooke Radio will allow us both to enhance our profiles in the Sooke region while realizing efficiencies in operations.”
The partnership will allow Sooke Radio to broadcast live from a central, accessible location, while the Museum will benefit from fresh avenues for public engagement. Joint programming, live interviews, and special event coverage are just some of the possibilities on the horizon.
“The Museum has always been a place where the community comes together to explore our shared history,” said Michelle Richard, Executive Director of the Sooke Region Museum & Visitor Centre. “Having our local radio station on Museum grounds enhances that vision—it’s an innovative twist on our mission to connect people to the region and to one another.”
The collaboration is also being applauded by the District of Sooke, which recognizes the partnership as a model of community cooperation.
“This partnership is a wonderful example of how local organizations come together to strengthen our community,” said Sooke Mayor Maja Tait. “Through our Community Grant Seed Funding, the District is proud to provide financial support to help launch this initiative. By investing in collaborations like this, we’re amplifying local voices, enhancing cultural life, and making Sooke an even more vibrant place to live and visit.”
Sooke Radio Society is a nonprofit funded by memberships, community fundraising, and grants from the District of Sooke and CRD Arts & Culture. This new studio space will open up exciting opportunities to showcase local and regional artists and musicians, giving them a platform to reach wider audiences while enriching the cultural life of the region.
This partnership highlights the power of collaboration among local non-profits and underscores a shared commitment to strengthening the cultural fabric of the Sooke region.
